Mustangs Sweep Northwestern In GPAC Tourney Title Match

The third time was the charm for the Morningside volleyball team when the Mustangs swept Northwestern College 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 in the championship match of the GPAC Post Season Tournament on Saturday in Orange City, Iowa.


The 12th-ranked Mustangs, who dropped both of their matches against No. 9 Northwestern during the regular season, will take a 36-4 record into the NAIA National Tournament.


Addi Radke slammed 12 kills to lead the Mustangs attack and share match honors with Northwestern’s Rylee Hulstein. Amber Jarzynka and Emily Christian each added nine kills for the winners.


Jericho Johnson and Jamie Vander Kooi led the Mustangs’ defensive effort with 15 and 14 kills, respectively.


The Mustangs’ other leaders were Kali Angerman with 37 assists and Emily Christen with two ace serves and three solo blocks.

Jarzynka Named GPAC Player Of The Week

Photo of Amber JarzynkaAmber Jarzynka, a 5-10 senior middle blocker from Bennington, Neb., has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Volleyball Player of the Week after she led the Mustangs to a pair of victories last week.


Jarzynka averaged 4.67 kills per game and had a .595 hitting percentage to lead the Mustangs to a 3-0 sweep of city rival Briar Cliff University and a 3-0 sweep of Concordia University in the quarterfinals of the GPAC Post-Season Tournament.


She had 14 kills and a .478 hitting percentage to go along with four block assists in the Mustangs’ win against Briar Cliff. Jarzynka attacked at a .737 clip and had 14 kills and two block assists in the win against Concordia.


Morningside will take a 34-4 record into a GPAC Tournament semifinal round contest against Dordt College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.


Angerman Wins GPAC Setter Honor For Fourth Time

Photo of Kali AngermanKali Angerman, a 5-9 senior setter from Sioux City, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week after she helped lead the Mustangs to three victories last week.


Angerman averaged 14.2 assists per game to help the Mustangs improve their record to 32-4. She had 59 assists in the Mustangs’ 3-1 triumph at Hastings College last Friday in a pivotal contest between two of the top teams in the GPAC standings. Angerman also had 34 digs last week for an average of 3.4 per game to go along with three ace serves.


Angerman received the GPAC Setter of the Week award for the fourth time this season. She is the NAIA national leader with an average of 12.89 assists per game.

 

 

 

Radke Is GPAC Player Of The Week

Photo of Addi RadkeAddi Radke, a 6-1 junior outside hitter from Corvallis, Ore., is this week’s Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.


Radke helped lead Morningside to five victories last week as the Mustangs improved their record to 28-3. She slammed 64 kills for an average of 4.27 kills per game and had a .341 hitting percentage.


She had 18 kills for her third highest kill total of the season when the Mustangs swept the University of Sioux Falls last Tuesday. Radke helped the Mustangs go 4-0 at last weekend’s University of St. Francis Big Guns Classic in Joliet, Ill., with 13 kills against Trinity Christian College, 12 kills against St. Francis, 11 kills against Illinois Institute of Technology, and 10 kills against Cardinal Stritch University. She was named to the all-tournament team at the Big Guns Classic and has produced a double figure kill total in each of the Mustangs’ last nine outings.

 

Angerman Receives Setter Of The Week Honors For Third Time

Angerman averaged 13.73 assists per game in the Mustangs’ victories against Mount Marty College, Midland Lutheran College, and Doane College last week to help the Mustangs improve their season’s record to 23-3.


Angerman, who received the GPAC’s weekly award for the third time this season, had a season’s high 65 assists in the Mustangs’ 3-2 win at Doane when the Mustangs’ posted their first-ever road victory against the Tigers.

Mustangs Sweep Player Of The Week Honors

Morningside swept all three Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Player of the Week honors in the sport of volleyball.


The Mustangs’ Amber Jarzynka is the GPAC Player of the Week, Kali Angerman is the GPAC Setter of the Week, and Jericho Johnson is the GPAC Libero of the Week. The three players helped lead Morningside to a 3-0 sweep of city rival Briar Cliff University last week in a series where the previous seven meetings had all gone five games.


Jarzynka, a 5-10 senior middle blocker from Bennington, Neb., dominated the net against the Chargers with a match-high 13 kills and a .444 hitting percentage on offense to go along with three solo blocks and three block assists on defense.


Angerman, a 5-9 senior from Sioux City, dealt 49 assists to go along with nine digs and an ace serve. She is the NAIA national leader with an average of 13.29 assists per game.


Johnson, a 5-5 junior from Hastings, Neb., led all performers with 19 digs and was a perfect 11-for-11 on reception attempts.

Angerman averaged 13.17 assists per game in 3-0 triumphs against the University of Sioux Falls, Southern Nazarene University, Ashford University, and College of Saint Mary. She also had eight ace serves and 39 digs for an average of 3.25 digs per game.


Angerman is the current NAIA national leader with an average of 13.62 ace serves per game. She has dealt 2,173 assists during her Morningside career for the fifth highest total in school history.
