Photo of Tom Maxon Tom Maxon will enter his eighth season as the Mustangs' head coach during the 2008 campaign. He is also the head coach of Morningside's women's soccer team.

Maxon has a 66-73-5 record with the Morningside men since starting up the school's varsity program. It took Maxon just two seasons to produce a winning team when the Mustangs posted a 14-6 record during the 2002 campaign. He has guided the Mustangs to five consecutive NAIA Region Playoff appearances, including the school's first-ever region berth in 2003. Maxon was named the 2004 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men's Soccer Coach of the Year after he guided the Mustangs to a 9-2 league record and a share of the GPAC championship. The Mustangs finished 15-8 in 2004 and came within one victory of a NAIA National Tournament berth when they reached the championship game of the NAIA Region IV Tournament.

He guided the Morningside women to a 15-5-1 record and their first-ever NAIA National Tournament berth during the 2006 season, then led the Mustangs to a 17-3-1 season and another national tournament appearance in 2007. Maxon was named the 2007 NAIA Region III Coach of the Year and the 2007 GPAC Coach of the Year.

Maxon has an overall record of 235-182-19 in the collegiate ranks. He previously coached at St. Mary of the Plains College and at National American University.

Maxon also coached five seasons in the Premier Development League, leading his 1999 Sioux City Breeze team to the Midwest Regional Final with a 19-4 record, and his 2001 Sioux Falls SpitFire team to the National Final Four with a 20-3-1 record.

Maxon, a United States Soccer Federation 'A' licensed coach, is a 1988 graduate of the University of Southern Maine, where he was a two-time All-American midfielder and set a school record for career assists. He played professionally in Germany and the United States following his collegiate career.

He received a master's degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy in 1990.
