Morningside's men's soccer season ended with a 2-0 loss against Dana College in the GPAC Post-Season Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday in Blair, Neb.
The Mustangs, who closed the books on a 6-12-1 season, were outshot by an 18-7 margin in the contest.
The Vikings scored both of their goals in the first half, but failed to add on to their advantage when Mustang goal keeper Daniel Whithorn came up with nine saves after the intermission.
Matt Mayfield had seven saves for the Mustangs in the first half.

Quin Kilgore, Chase Maier, and Matt Mayfield were all been named to the honorable mention list of the 2008 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Soccer Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Kilgore, a junior midfielder from Lincoln, Neb., has scored two goals and three assists for seven points this season.
Kilgore also received honorable mention All-GPAC honors as a sophomore.
Maier, a sophomore defender from Deadwood, S.D., also made the All-GPAC honorable mention list for the second year in a row. Maier was the standout defender this year for a Morningside defense that has limited its opponents to averages of 15.5 shots and 2.10 goals per game. Maier has also contributed six points to the Mustangs’ offensive attack with two goals and two assists.
Mayfield, a sophomore goal keeper from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has a 4-5 record with 65 saves and a goals against average of 1.86 goals per game.
Mayfield ranks fifth in Morningside history with 77 career saves.

Matt Mayfield, a sophomore from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine College Division Men’s Soccer Academic All-District VII Second-Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Mayfield has a 3.81 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and is majoring in psychology counseling.
Mayfield has a 4-4 record with 53 saves and a goals against average of 1.86 goals per game this season.
Morningside, which has a 5-2-1 record over its last eight contests, will take a 6-10-1 record into its regular season finale against Hastings College this Saturday in Elwood Olsen Stadium.
Student-athletes must be of at least sophomore status and have a minimum GPA of 3.30 in order to be eligible for ESPN The Magazine academic honors.
Chase Maier, a sophomore midfielder from Deadwood, S.D., is this week’s Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
Maier scored two goals in the Mustangs’ 5-2 victory against Jamestown College last Sunday. His goals came back-to-back in the second half to break a 2-2 tie.
Earlier in the week he contributed an assist in the Mustangs’ 4-3 loss against William Penn University.
Morningside has been tabbed for a fourth place finish in the 2008 GPAC Men's Soccer Coaches' Pre-Season Poll.
The Mustangs posted a 10-7-3 record and finished second in the GPAC with a 7-4-1 mark last season.
