The Morningside College student radio station KMSC is scheduled to resume broadcasts on August 4 at a new frequency of 92.9 FM.
The college recently received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to begin broadcasting on the new frequency. KMSC had stopped full-time broadcasts at its old frequency 88.3 FM on February 9.
“I’ve heard time and again from listeners wondering what happened to KMSC and asking when we were going back on the air,” said Mark Heistad, associate professor of mass communications at Morningside and faculty advisor for the student radio station. “It is nice to finally be able to give them some answers.”
Heistad called the resumption of broadcasts a re-launch of the station.
“We’ll still have the same mix of music, coverage of Morningside sports and the eclectic mix of other stuff the students decide they want to put on the air,” he added. “We’ll just be on a new frequency.”
The Morningside College station had broadcast at 88.3 FM since 1978. The college applied to the FCC for permission to broadcast at the new frequency 92.9 FM to avoid signal interference with another Sioux City station, which began broadcasting in February at a frequency of 88.1 FM.
